Dr. Michal Hershkovitz Michaeli is a researcher and lecturer in the field of dance education. She holds a Ph.D., magna cum laude, in Educational Sciences and Psychology from Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB), an M.Ed. with distinction in Visual Literacy, and a B.Ed. with a teaching certificate in Dance and Movement from Kibbutzim College. Her research focuses on innovative pedagogy in dance teaching and learning, including the development of applied pedagogical models, such as “Screen-Stage,” which proposes a game-based framework that invites children into creative processes.
Her doctoral research, which examined non-formal, independent, voluntary teaching-learning in dance among children using social media, proposes a pedagogical model for developing dance-teaching expertise by conceptualizing motivations, strategies, and principles for dance teaching and learning. She is currently conducting research at the intersection of dance and neuro-pedagogy in the training of pre-service dance and mathematics teachers. Her research has been presented at international conferences in China, Romania, the United States, and Israel.
Michal has been a faculty member at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance since 2014, where she teaches courses in methodology and practice, clinical training and practicum, and advanced research-oriented courses in the graduate program in dance. She initiated the “Kaleidoscope” project, which fosters artistic-social encounters between dance and music students and diverse communities in Israeli society, and established the pedagogy specialization track within the graduate dance program. She served as Head of the Dance Education Program at the JAMD for five years and has been Head of the Graduate Programs in Dance since October 2025.
Michal is a member of the National Professional Committee for Dance at the Ministry of Education, the Dance Repertoire Committee of “Sal Tarbut,” and the Board of Directors of the Israeli Society of Dance Research.
